I enjoy trying new things. And, as I’m getting older, I’m wanting to branch out with my tastebuds even more. So, yesterday I was shopping at Sprouts and I found something fun: Kangaroo!

My son Chris was coming over for dinner, which prompted the need for it as well. If you’ve read any of my posts about him, you’d know he’s the biggest carnivore I know. Plus, he’s always open to tasting new meats, which is awesome. So, I knew that he’d want to try it. 🙂
The kangaroo is from a place called Durham Ranch in Wyoming, and I love what the website have as a mission statement:

First I sauteed green onions in extra virgin olive oil till they were caramelized, and added minced garlic and oregano. I added the meat and cooked at a low temperature till it was browned throughout. I cooked in some marinara and served it over gluten free penne pasta. On top of that was the parmesan that Kenny shredded for me (*he’s my cheese shredder, ever since the shredder bit me).
Anyhow, it tasted delicious, and I’ll definitely be putting it on my regular menus as a ground meat to use.

The main focus of today’s post is not necessarily a kangaroo recipe (which you CAN expect in the future), but rather a challenge to you: go out and find a new food…. and taste it! Hopefully you’ll like it…. well, unless you’re like Calvin…

I’d love to hear what odd, strange, or newly found food items you’ve tasted lately! Please tell me in the comments section below.

I’m waiting to see how you like it first. I’m not a vegetarian, but meat is at the bottom of my list of things to eat.

When I was travelling in Northern Africa I had camel meat, it wasn’t very good. I have not had kangaroo but have had bison and I like it very much.

Oh I love-love-love a good bison steak!
Wow – camel! Good to know… I’ll make sure to bypass that one 😉 And, how awesome that you got to travel in North Africa! That’s so cool!

Ground ostrich is about the most unusual food I have tried. It was good, but similar enough to ground beef that it wasn’t worth the cost, other than just being able to say we tried it. 🙂

I have yet to try ostrich! I want to so much. I remember seeing it every week at the local market when I lived in Arcadia, CA in the early 90s. But at that time, it was $9.99/lb! um, no. 😉
