Smoothies to the Rescue

Since when did I start living in Florida?

Salvador Dali's
Salvador Dali’s “The Persistence of Memory” – 1931

Ever feel like you’re inside that famous Salvador Dali painting where the clocks are all melting? I think his inspiration must have been from an earlier experience from at least one Southern California August.

It’s been crazy-hot this week, and when the humidity mimics that, and it feels like it’s at about 100%….

Dear Humidity, your hairdressing skills are lacking. Love, me

… there’s the fabulous benefit that high heat + high humidity make my hair look like a troll doll. I am oh so lovely, let me tell you! Yikes!

But this heat also makes me incredibly thirsty for something chilly.

I was thinking about the lovely concoctions I used to make years ago for myself and my kids each summer when they were growing up. Some were a hit, while others…yeah, not so much. However, here are some tried-and-true smoothies you can make for a snack tomorrow to help you beat the heat!

 * Note: When any of these smoothies call for “frozen” fruit, it means I’ve gotten them fresh, washed them, discarded any leaves, chopped into chunks, and frozen them.
◊ To make, just add all ingredients in a vitamix or blender and whiz till it’s the right consistency for your tastes.
**Disclaimer: If you want to add ½ scoop of protein powder to any of these, go ahead… however, I absolutely do not recommend the use of any protein powders that include soy or soy derivatives.
